SF Bay Area - Peninsula Lauf-Führer
Runners have carved out space for themselves in the SF Bay Area Peninsula. From well-trod road runs used heavily by Stanford students and alums, to nearby green spaces rich with redwoods, both road and trail runners alike can find a satisfying run. Summers can get toasty here beyond the reaches of SF fog, so check the weather as you pack your gear.

Sawyer Camp Trail
-
Distanz 16,9 km
-
Höhenmeter 156 m
The ease of running on this flat paved path alongside the Crystal Springs Reservoir makes the Sawyer Camp Trail the most popular place to run on the peninsula. Access the trailhead from the intersection of Crystal Springs Road and Skyline Blvd, right next to highway 280. Parking along the side of the road here is typically easy but you should get an early start on the weekends if you want to avoid a crowd. There are restrooms at the trailhead but no water so bring your own. From here you can do a nice out and back run as far as you like. If you run all the way to San Andreas Lake and back it will be just over 10 miles and you’ll have a solid climb up to the top of the dam. The path doesn't cross any roads so there's no need to make any stops. Along the way enjoy the scenery of the pristine reservoir below and the mountains beyond.

The Dish
-
Distanz 5,9 km

Höhenmeter 171 m
You haven't really run at Stanford until you've done "The Dish". The amazing views of the bay and close proximity to campus have made The Dish a standard for local runners. The 3.7 mile paved loop has some respectable ups and downs, making it a good place to do hill repeats or just a quick tough run. Along the way, you will see two large satellite dishes, giving the run its name, and lots of grazing cows. Most people will run the loop counter-clockwise because it's a more gradual two miles to the top instead of the strenuous one-mile ascent from the opposite direction. Security guards patrol the area and you will likely see plenty of other runners and walkers so it is safe to run alone here. Entrances to The Dish are on Junipero Serra Blvd. at Stanford Ave. and near Campus Drive. There are no restrooms or drinking fountains at The Dish. After your run, swing by local running store, Zombie Runner, for some gear and an excellent cup of coffee (yes, there's a coffee shop inside the running store!).

Huddart Park
-
Distanz 11,3 km
-
Höhenmeter 424 m
Huddart Park is an escape to a fairytale land deep within a dark redwood forest. Pay your $6 fee and park at the Werder Shelter where you will find restrooms and water. From here you can jump right on the trail and disappear into the solitude of the forest. There is no flat ground here so be prepared to be constantly ascending or descending. But the soft surface of the trail is forgiving and on a hot day you will stay cool under the dense canopy of trees. For a fairly challenging run, you can loop around the park for about 7 miles. For a really long run, add on an out and back down the Skyline Trail which parallels Skyline Blvd and takes you all the way to Wunderlich Park. After your run, grab a bite to eat at the legendary Buck's of Woodside, known for "Flapjacks and Tomfoolery" as you will see from the eclectic decor.

Windy Hill
-
Distanz 17,2 km
-
Höhenmeter 511 m
You can’t avoid running hills here at the aptly named Windy Hill Open Space Preserve. And don’t forget about the wind you will undoubtedly encounter when you reach the top of the ridge. But, on a clear day the panoramic views from the top are unbeatable, you can even see the ocean. If you are up for the challenge, you can make a 7 to 9 mile loop here using any of the three trails that go up and down between the bottom of the park along Alpine Road and the top of the park along Skyline Blvd. The Spring Ridge Trail is an exposed fire road that may be a good option if you want to warm up in the sun. The two shaded single-track trails, Hamms Gulch and Razorback Ridge that are featured in this route, stretch well over two miles and over 1000 feet in elevation. Bring your own water, as there is no drinking water at the trailheads. Try not to fall in love with this wooded oasis and its babbling brooks, Spanish moss, and spectacular views.

Arastradero
-
Distanz 7,0 km
-
Höhenmeter 187 m
Pearson-Arastradero Preserve is a perfect example of California wildlife with its grassy open hillsides dotted with bright orange poppies and scraggly live oak trees. Oh and don't forget about the rattlesnakes! On a warm day you'll likely find one sunning itself on the trail so stay alert. You'll also want to pay attention for people horseback riding and mountain biking. The convenient access to highway 280 and Palo Alto means that the park can get fairly crowded. A run through Arastradero is typically mild-mannered with gentle rolling terrain and a good mix of fire road and single-track trails. Wear sunscreen and bring water as most of the route is exposed and can get pretty hot. There is a nice restroom facility with drinking water at the parking lot on Arastradero Road. If you'd like to extend your run you can add an out and back along the Arastradero Creek Trail, which will connect you to the Foothills Park trail system.
