This loop is commonly called the Dismal / Natureland Loop.  Here’s the route; Raven Cliff Falls to Dismal to Natureland to Gum Gap.  Doing this route clockwise was a VERY good call; thank-you trail reports / reviews.

The descent down Dismal was tough.  Reminiscent of the drop from Cold Mtn down to Camp Daniel Boone on the Art Loeb.  Once down by the river it’s fairly flat until you have to climb Natureland and then things get spicy.  It’s pretty much a straight vertical climb up super steep switchbacks.  1300 ft up in 1.5 mi.  Trail is fairly well blazed but I still managed to lose the trail a few times.  The suspension bridge is REALLY cool.  Pics don’t do it justice.  After the bridge it’s fairly smooth sailing on wide double track forest road which is also part of the Foothills 80 mile trail.
