A popular 2-mile hike on West Mountain with easy access from town.
West Mountain is one of the top areas to enjoy a relaxing day hike around Hot Springs NP. Several trails offer access from town and various neighborhoods, or you could drive to the top to enjoy views from the comfort of your vehicle. Thanks to its versatility and dog-friendly status, this loop is the classic way to tour West Mountain's main trails.
Whether you already visited the [Grand Promenade]( or have plans to, this hike could make a great addition to your day if you have energy and time to spare. Simply find the Oak Trail or Canyon Trail and follow either uphill towards the shelter on West Mountain. Though the .5-mile brick walkway is a must-see and iconic landmark in Hot Springs, its short distance makes it more of a leisurely walk than a hike.
If you want to skip the hike, a public road on West Mountain leads to a great overlook at the top. The view is also the beginning of the [Sunset Trail]( a difficult 9-mile trail circling town along the nearby ridgeline. Neither water nor restrooms are available on the mountain, but both are available at the visitor center on Central Avenue.
