Gorham Mountain Loop

Hiking Trail

Hard
2.71 mi
552 ft
A summit loop over Gorham Mountain known for its expansive oceanside views and rocky shoreline.

The Gorham Mountain Loop is a classic day hike with dramatic oceanside views and the option to test your wits on one of Acadia's acclaimed "rung and ladder" trails. It provides an "excellent overview of what Acadia has to offer" and includes a "taste of history... with a plaque dedicated to Waldron Bates," a visionary, advocate, and the reason why many of Acadia's trails exist. As mapped, this hike begins at the Gorham Mountain Trailhead, **not** Sand Beach. You could also park along the rocky shoreline and pick up the loop heading south on Ocean Path. At the trailhead, look for a stump with *Gorham Mountain Trail* carved into it and begin the loop hiking in a clockwise direction. Worth noting, "starting in 2021, if you're accessing this trail from Sand Beach, you will need a reservation to use a private vehicle to enter the Sand Beach Entrance Station from mid-June to mid-October."
