Short but steep forest trail on the edge of Park City to an overlook of the resort and town.

Iron Canyon is a short but steep hike to an overlook on the slope of Iron Mountain, on the edge of Park City. Because it’s not technically part of Park City Mountain Resort, Iron Canyon Trail is open any time of year, and dogs are allowed. The access is in a neighborhood full of private homes, however, so be respectful of people’s space and property. Ride your bike to this trailhead if you can.

The trail climbs through lovely woods of aspen and pine punctuated by small meadows. Enjoy the forest wildflowers, shady groves, splashes of sunshine, and watching for wildlife while you work uphill. The truly excellent view comes at the top, from Iron Mountain Overlook. This clearing on the ridgeline grants a vantage over all of Park City town and resort. Most people turn around there, but it’s possible to continue uphill and join with Mid Mountain Trail, which links to the huge network of Park City Mountain Resort.
