Easy, wheelchair-accessible trail to a beautiful waterfall tucked away in the Chequamegon National Forest.
Morgan Falls is an absolutely beautiful hike in the Chequamegon National Forest that also happens to be fully wheelchair-accessible. This 1.5-mile round-trip hike traverses a flat, well-developed gravel trail that crosses a couple of impressive bridges and a few boardwalks. The surface is well-compacted the entire way, and the route gains very little elevation.
The hike begins from a well-developed trailhead that requires a USFS parking fee. Note that an annual national parks pass, such as the "America the Beautiful" pass, will qualify for the parking fee.
Even right out of the parking lot, you'll enjoy a beautiful forest that offers stunning colors in the fall. After a few minutes of hiking, you'll find yourself at a trail junction. Follow the signs and take the right turn toward Morgan Falls.
Morgan Falls will reward your work with a beautiful cascade tumbling down a rift in a rock wall, splashing around an unusual rocky corner to land in a dark pool at the bottom. During the heat of the summer, this is a popular swimming hole for children to splash around in. Even if you don't want to get in the water, simply enjoying the coolness of this shady, narrow valley is a delight.
Once done at the falls, return to your car the way you came. You can definitely opt to add on more mileage and hike all the way to Saint Peters Dome, but note that the trail will get much narrower, rockier, and more difficult. It is definitely not wheelchair accessible, but if you're up for a longer, more challenging hike, the view at the end is undoubtedly worth it! Written by Greg Heil
