Snow King Summit Trail
Hiking Trail
Hard
4.54 mi
1,648 ft
A local go-to workout with incredible views, reaching the top of Snow King Mountain.
Snow King is the ski resort in the town of Jackson, forming the immediate backdrop to the downtown. It's a recreation hotspot all year long, with loads of outdoor activities in every season. When it's time for hiking, this is one of the go-to trails. It's a leg-burning climb that of 1500 feet to the top of the mountain. Sure, you could get there by chairlift instead, but it's better to earn it. And hiking is free!
The trail cuts across grassy ski slopes and through shady glades, with the color of flowers in the summer and foliage in fall. All along you'll get picture-perfect views over Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons. Once on top, you may want to linger and explore other trails. There's a short nature loop as well as connections to longer excursions like Skyline Trail. Return down the way you came, or get creative and make a loop. You can even ride the chairlift down for a fee.
Note that hiking at Snow King is only open seasonally, typically late spring through mid fall. Written by Jesse Weber
