Marathon no. 2 was a big step up from no. 1. From 2:43ish to 2:40.04 so big time improvement. Snapped the string on my Nike shorts before the race and had to make some quick adjustments using a pin. Still had some saggy shorts for the first bit before my gels got used l. Morton’s took good care of me, managed to use all 6 this time before I finished. Took one at the start, one every 4 miles, and one at 22. Took water as often as I could but sometimes had to pass because I could feel a side stitch was imminent. Gonna be honest the water stands were a mess here. They had no warning signs to let you know they were coming, and were not at any regular interval.  Also there was no Gatorade, which was super sad. Honestly worst part of this marathon. Bag pickup was amazing and efficient. Shoutout to the cheer crew from Wheaton (Natalie Conrad, Sarah Quintanilla, Stephen Hansen, Bella McDonald) and special shoutout to Stephen Hansen and Jacob Fopma who got the one and only Cole Hocker to sign our most treasured team relic. Course was ok, parts in the city were awesome, but sometimes we were running along roads that only had one lane closed for us to run it, and the rest still had traffic. That was not poggers but not a game ender. 

Now race breakdown. Went out with John Mccloskey, Kellen Petersen, Noah Fopma, and John’s teammate Clark. I got very buried at the start, and started having flashbacks to my 8k at st. James, but I managed to pull it together and get back with the guys. We vibed for 10ish miles with 6:00-6:15 miles mostly together, I definitely had to reel it in a few times. John dropped behind at some point in there (apparently he was only 10ish seconds back) so Clark, Kellen and I rolled together. 1:19.50 through the half with was perfect, and I was feeling amazing especially compared to grandmas where I was feeling sussy at the half. So I kept trying to hold my pace, and somewhere around 16 I lost Kellen and Clark. Just kept rolling by myself, feeling great, I distinctly remember feeling good mile 18 and 19. Hip was sore but the pace was doable. John caught me around 20.50 and I was starting to feel the hurt. 21/22 the pain cave took me. I settled into 6:20-6:25 pace with my hips very grumpy. Got N-Fop with Maybe a mile or two left and charged for home hoping for the sub 2:40. Came up just short, but very happy overall.
