Huge shout out to Cody Cook for doing the hard work of leading the whole race and for my favorite battle in a race I’ve ever had. 

Based off last race’s poor strategy I decided NO moves would be made until the second half of the race (trying to learn from mistakes). Basically just kept contact with the lead pack but was as far as 30-40 yards back from the top 3. I closed the gap super quickly on the techy downhills between miles 4-5. Made two passes on the shitty slippery stuff back to back and by mile 5.5 I was sitting in second right on Cody’s heels. I knew the last 1.5 were mostly downhill and I knew that’s probably where my biggest advantage was. I tried to pass on the outside 2-3 times on single track but Cody accelerated each time and covered my move. Once I saw the road I knew it was just coming down to who had more left in the tank. I moved hard to pass inside AS SOON as we hit the road and just fuggin sent it full gas. I had the inside on the last turn and then after that just gave it everything I had to sneak in first at the last .2. 

Really happy with how I paced the race and the strategy behind it/ didn’t lead until the last quarter mile when it mattered. Fun stuff and looking forward to forward to learning more race strategy in the winter series short races!
