36x17 was a better overall gear choice. 
Didn’t get a chance to see if I could still climb the run the hooligan spectators threw logs all over the course. Had a really good start, then some dude crashed right in front of me and our bikes got severely tangled together. Took a very long time to extract my crank arm from between his spokes. Eventually dislodged my way back up. 23rd out of 118 isn’t bad for old man after all of that
