Woke up at the trailhead this morning to a frosty tent and 24 degree air, then set off to cover 28 miles in the less than ten hours of light. I was worried I would be hiking into the night but easily made it back before sunset! V pretty area, there were lots of good places to swim if it were summer. I was surprised to see quite a few others out backpacking the loop, but really no reason not to in December in Arkansas. Also when I started hiking this morning I had it in my head that I was doing the loop counterclockwise and it took me 15 whole miles to realize oh I’m not doing this the direction I thought I was. This was my second longest hike of 2024 but wouldn’t have even cracked the top 40 last year which is crazy. This was the most mileage I have done in a winter month though :)
