The end of the business year is characterized by melancholy happiness and subdued celebration. I feel a bit like a fly on the wall. Constantly, I am observing from my role of relative obscurity. I see work being accomplished, problems arising, employees giving best effort, tension not being handled. My little suction cup feet can walk all around the office and not get noticed. It is becoming harder to trace my impact through the broader web of corporate snags i’m mapping out. Sometimes i choose to fly through the gaps in the silk rather than entangle myself and attract bureaucratic spiders.  I’m not able to look past the neglect my company shows me, but I collect refreshing bits of dew where I can. By far the most fulfilling part of working is collaboration. Seeing a co-op improve my work after 6 months of adapting to the team is delightful. I was going above and beyond to rally his project to the finish on his final day today. Alas, IT blocking software access scuttled my chance; we were content to give up and embrace aura of the emptying office though. Snowflakes were beginning to fall, and with the gentle storm came a tardy, jolly spirit within me. I was lucky to join the manufacturing gathering after 12pm. The fraternity of the cannula team is special. The nature of the job has us dedicated to tangible problems, and we live and die as brothers by our ability to address them. We fist bump in the trenches of challenging and often tedious process improvement. We will eventually overcome, cheering a successful first article inspection, returning a cell to production. The enemy is never within. Doings shots together after a meal and creating uproar when one of us sinks a throwing-axe bullseye lit a fire in my heart that i wasnt expecting. Everyone needs to let loose of the persistent looming challenges of work. 7 months ago, I pictured myself happier and healthier by this point of my return to responsibilities. Leaving the tavern, now in the dark, I wasnt feeling so bad about things. While i was celebrating, a pure blanket of snow had fallen over my bike, and my helmet which i had neatly bundled in my rain jacket. I found serenity on the energetically silent path home from belmont. The sky was a whirling glow of ice and city light. My wheels gathered a white cushion around the rims. The only sounds were the wind, and whirring crush as the delicate layer of fresh snow collapsed in my track.
