Today’s plan? Just go back and grab Brownie’s leash I forgot yesterday… but of course, we turned it into a summit mission.
Started from Battle Creek, stepped a little further than yesterday just to beat myself—and I did. Snowshoes on (MSR Lightning Ascent), and the difference was insane. No trail in sight, just me, the mountain, and 1300 ft of gain in under a mile straight up Big Baldy’s steep snowy side.
Brownie went full beast mode chasing snow down the mountain—pure joy.
After summiting, we took a shortcut to Dry Canyon and called Brownie’s parent to give us a ride back to Battle Creek.
Round trip: 6.75 miles | 3,700 ft elevation gain.
Didn’t see a soul going up or at the top—just some brave footprints in tennis shoes near the north face (mad respect, but I chose safety). The only person we saw was Sam, halfway down—trail runner vibes!
At my age, just making it up some peaks feels like a win.
