The Loop

Stone Mountain--Widow's Creek to BRP

In making this route, I was looking for maximal rural charm, minimal traffic, and a chance to check out all those interesting looking roads with cool names we pass when doing the classic Bikefest loops but never seem to get to explore. Allie May, Lib, Poteat, Lonesome, Doc Corbett--they didn't disappoint, and I had them mostly to myself so I could really appreciate the sunshine glistening off the fields and inhale clouds of mist rising off the grass by the side of the road instead of truck exhaust . There was  even a nice couple mile stretch of easy gravel on Bama Rd. that was like a winding private driveway to a little farm.  This route only touches the far stretches of the Bikefest 100, but there was a nice hill on Dave Smith Rd. that is as good as any on that larger loop. Not a bad way to spend a birthday. I'll definitely be doing this one again soon.
