Pu'u Pua'i Overlook via Devastation Trail
Hiking Trail
Easy
0.96 mi
55 ft
One of the easiest yet most beautiful hikes in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
The Devastation Trail is an easy paved trail running through an incredible lava field. This is one of the easiest hikes in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, yet it is strikingly beautiful and absolutely worth the time! The trail ends at Pu'u Pua'i Overlook, itself a spectacular vista. While you can drive directly to the overlook, taking this short walk along the Devastation Trail instead helps immerse you in the landscape.
The Pu'u Pua'i Cinder Cone, which towers over this entire hike, was formed in a 1959 eruption, which spewed ash and other debris into the Kilauea Iki Crater below.
