Yaquina Head Lighthouse

Hiking Trail

Easy
0.86 mi
53 ft
Hike to the tallest lighthouse in Oregon.

Standing 93 feet tall, the Yaquina Head Light is the tallest lighthouse in Oregon. Made in Paris and subsequently shipped to Oregon, the lighthouse was first lit in 1873.

Yaquina Head itself has now been designated as an "Outstanding Natural Area.” It "extends out from the Oregon coast, one mile into the Pacific Ocean,” according to [](

These days, Yaquina Head offers fantastic opportunities to view the historic lighthouse and experience the outstanding natural beauty of the area. The hike mapped here is an easy paved walk to the lighthouse itself, but it can be extended with nearby trails.

First, consider walking down the steps to the shoreline to enjoy the marine garden. You’ll spot all manner of flora and fauna, including sea urchins, sea stars, and seals.

For a longer hike, consider the easy gravel trail that ascends to the top of the communications hill. The trail is smooth and easy to hike, but it does gain some elevation to the highest point on Yaquina Head.

However long you choose to hike, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the lighthouse and the beautiful Oregon Coast. This place is magical—savor it!
