Woke up with frost on the tent. Cold cold riding until highway 26 where we warmed up into Prineville. Parents met up with us and made breakfast burritos out of the van! Beautiful haul into the Crooked River and then a final beastly climb to get out of tthe reservoir area. Howard and I shared a pace line to beat some headwind through Alfalfa and into Bend. Super minimal stopping and good long pushes. The final climb up Pilot Butte was more burly than I remember, but its fun being totally gassed and still getting a climb like that done. Its not like youre not going to do it, right?

Big take aways from this thing:

Training. I procrastinate a lot of things in life and get away with a lot, but its hard to ride a heavy bike for 100 miles for 3 days without much more than some fun mountain bike rides under my belt leading up to it. If I want to keep doing these things then I gotta train. 

Friends and Adventure. Talked to the race winner as we all started out. He was out here to push himself and see how fast he could do it, sacrificing sleep and comfort. I told him I liked the sense of adventure and meeting people. After a tough day 1 I almost called it the next morning. I thought I was in the very back and my knees hurt (probably from the lack of training). I was in no spot to push myself as all of a sudden the adventure and people were gone. Then I saw Howard again, he encouraged me to keep going, and thenday flew by as we enjoyed conversation between one another and the Mountain Turtle cameo. Anyways, I dont know if I'll ever be a feirce competitor in these sort of things, but I will keep doing them in the spirit of adventure and comrodory. 

Bike Fit? Idk my knees really hurt. Probably worth dialing that in if I'm going to keep riding bikes the rest of my life. Which I definitely hope to do.
