I had one goal today: to win back a KOM on the Muir Woods Rd to Hwy 1 climb. I might have gotten the KOM back if we had started the hike as I had planned - starting fresh with the climb early in the hike. Logistics prevented that so we finished up the climb at the end of the hike. I wasn't  exactly stale, but I wan't popping fresh. 

The first climb of the hike was steep and rolling, up the Ygdrassil Trail. From there we hiked down to the Miwok Spur and took it to Coyote Ridge.  I added in some bonus miles at that point, something i was able to do throughout the hike. 

The descent down to the Green Gulch Zen Center offered the usual sweeping views of Muir Beach and the Pacific but at the Zen Center, we didn't get to stop for zazen. At Muir Beach, we began the second climb, past the Muir Beach Community Center and on to the Muir Beach Overlook before descending on the Owl Trail down to Slide Ranch. The tide was coming up so we didn't have lunch on the rocks, much less martinis on the rocks.

After lunch we began the climb up the Coast Trail. On the way up, we ran into a Mt Biker who muttered "Fuč̣%ing tourists" under his breath because he had to slow down on the single track trail instead of playing "bombadier games". Yea Mr Shiny New Mt Bike", I'm still a tourist even though I've made this climb close to 30 times. Yea right. You're probably the type who voted for the lying Orange One. Luckily the rest of the Mt  Bikers we met on the way up were respectful.

I got to Cardiac Hill without having a cardiac and then hiked back down to meet the group as they were breaking off for the descent down the Deer Park Fire Rd/Dipsea Trail. At the bottom, Muir Woods Rd, I began what I'd hoped would be the piece de resistance of the hike - The climb up to Hwy 1. 

I made good time but retaking the KOM was not to be. Oh well, the climb will always be there. Another time, another try.

Aside from missing out on the goal, it was a great hike, with great weather, great views, and great fun with MSDH old timers. Who could ask for anything more?
