Woke up. Still raining. Packed everything up in the rain. Everything got drenched. A miserable day to finish as if the AT wanted to remind me it’s usually very wet and I’d generally had it pretty dry for my hike! 

It’s an easy day though. Less than 20 miles - I’d purposely done a bit more the last few to leave the last day a bit shorter. 

It didn’t stop raining most the day but the final climb up Springer to the finish was quite atmospheric at least with the clag all around. I finished at Springer summit which doesn’t have any views and is just a small area of rocks on top of a wooded hill (like a lot of the AT summits). A more anti-climatic finish to a 2200 mile hike you could not imagine! 

Anyway, I still needed to camp up here tonight, as it’s another 9 miles of  ‘approach trail’ hike which I’ll mostly do in the morning, so after signing the logbook I scurried off to find water before dark and covered a mile and a half of the approach trail to a shelter as the rain is carrying on all night again! It battered it down all night again.
