Silly Garmin: it's 50.1 mi, ~11,000' vert. Official time 11:47:01, P51/M42. That was brutal. Totally sandbagged the first 5 miles trying to avoid going out too fast like a month ago, might have backfired. Felt terrific up to Towers 1. Then down Spring Crk I realized my quads were completely locked up. Tried to loosen them up going up Horsetooth, felt really strong on the uphills. Down Mill Crk was a disaster. Quads felt like concrete the rest of the day, and my uphill speed couldn't help me keep up with the people I was leapfrogging anymore. Down Horsetooth after slamming ginger ale and pickle juice was the closest to running fast downhill I did all day. Gritty day, probably the most uncomfortable thing I've ever done.
